Brands over time

Privacy

Brands over time counts visits so we can see which brands and charts people read. It does that without cookies and without knowing who you are. Last updated 2026-10-05.

Who we are

This site is run by Adapt Progress Evolve Limited, registered in England and Wales, company no. 10047328 (Companies House). We are the controller of the information described here. Contact us at hello@brandsovertime.com.

What we record

For each page view, we record:

  • the page you viewed
  • the site that sent you here, if any
  • campaign tags in the link
  • a rough device size (phone, tablet or desktop)
  • the country Cloudflare reports

We also record:

  • how far down the page you scrolled
  • how long the page was visible
  • which links to other sites you followed
  • which charts or years you picked

A random id, kept in this browser tab's session storage, groups one visit's events. Your browser forgets it when you close the tab, and it is never linked to you or to other visits.

What we never record

We never record your IP address, your browser's user agent, cookies, or anything you type.

IP addresses and infrastructure

The site runs on Cloudflare, which processes your IP address to deliver pages and protect the site. While a request is being handled, we also use your IP address to rate-limit the analytics endpoint. Our analytics database never stores it. Cloudflare's own handling is described in its privacy policy.

Automated crawlers, such as search engines and AI assistants, are logged separately: the page, the crawler's user agent and its country, never an IP address.

Why, and on what basis

We use this information only to produce aggregate statistics about how the site is used, so we can improve it. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)): understanding how a free public site is read, with no profiling, no advertising and no sharing. The session id is stored for statistical purposes only, with clear information and a free way to object, as UK rules on storage and access technologies allow.

How long we keep it

Individual events are deleted automatically 90 days after they are recorded. After that we keep only counts that cannot be traced back to a visit, such as page views per day. Nothing is sold or shared with advertisers.

Your choices and rights

If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, nothing is recorded. You can also switch analytics off for this browser:

You have the right to ask what we hold, and to object to or erase it. Because we hold no name, IP address or lasting identifier, we usually cannot find a particular person's events, but write to hello@brandsovertime.com and we will help where we can. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
